Parts of a Flower Did you know that there are ten parts of a flower? First, there are the sticky and small anthers. The anthers are at the top of one of the long, skinny filament stalks. Did you know that when the pollen is ready to be spread, the anther opens up and releases the pollen. Another part of the flower is the filament, the long stalk that the anther rests on. Did you know that filmant means something long and thin?Next, there is the stamen which is the male parts of the flower that surround the pistil. After the stamen, we have the stigma that is a sticky bulb at the top of the pistil. Pollen attaches to the stigma. Fifth, we have the amazing Style that is a long stalk that holds up the Stigma, and pollen travels down the Style to the ovary. Speaking of ovary, the ovary is the gigantic base of the pistil where seeds develop. A mature ovary turns into the fruit of a plant. After the ovary, we have the pistil, which is the female part of the flower that is shaped like a bowling pin. The pistil is made out of the stigma, style, ovary, and ovule. Now we have the ovule. The ovule is the small parts inside the ovary that turn into seeds when fertilized with pollen. Next, the part of the flower that almost everybody knows and loves…The petals!! The petals are soft parts surrounding the pistil and stamen. Petals are often brightly colored to attract bugs that can pollinate it. Now, last but definitely not least, the sepal, the small leaves directly under the flower. The flower is a very interesting part of nature.
