Annuals vs. Perennials
An annual is any plant that flowers, forms seeds, and dies in a single growing season. Because annual flowering plants usually bloom more quickly and for a longer period of time than perennials, they are frequently used to provide garden color. Annuals are classified into warm-weather annuals, planted in cold climates after all danger of frost is past; cool-weather annuals, which flourish in the north but generally bloom for only a short time in warmer climates; and frost-hardy annuals, which are often planted in the fall for early-spring bloom.
A perennial is a plant that re-grows every year. Perennials often do not bloom as long as annuals but they divide and expand year after year. In a perennial garden you can strategically plant so that you can have color all season long. As with annuals, certain plants will only grow in specific climates.
