Life Cycle of a Plant The life cycle of a plant is very interesting. First, the beautiful seed falls from a flower, and a bird eats it. A seed is a baby plant and contains nutrients necessary to start the life of a new plant. Seeds come in many shapes and sizes. Then the seed gets dropped by the bird, and in a few weeks germination begins. The seed needs sunlight, water, air and soil. They are the four things a plant needs to grow. After germination the seed develops roots that grow downward, and a stem that grows upward. Now the plant is called a seedling. After the seedling stage it grows a few leaves, and this is called a young plant. Next the young plant forms a flower, and this is called a mature plant. The mature plant grows more leaves, and the roots grow deeper. Finally, the flower gets pollinated by a bee, and then it can form new seeds. The life cycle of the plant begins again!
